Tafawa Balewa’s wife dies at 85 – TheCable

Jummai Abubakar, the last surviving wife of Tafawa Balewa, the late prime minister of Nigeria, is dead.

Hajara Wanka, a grand daughter to the late prime minister, confirmed the death of Abubakar in a telephone interview with NAN on Sunday night.

Wanka said the deceased, aged 85, died at 4pm on Sunday in Lagos, following a cardiac arrest, leaving behind eight children and many grandchildren.

She said the deceased had returned from a two-week medical trip in India, but decided to stay a while in Lagos with her daughter, when the death occurred.

She said her remains would be brought to Bauchi on Monday for burial.
