The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) Zamfara Command has intercepted a shipment of 75 drums of calcium chlorate, a water treatment chemical, suspected to have been diverted from the state Water Board. Calcium chlorate is commonly used for removing impurities from water, ensuring its safety and cleanliness.
Muhammed Muazu, the NSCDC Commandant in Zamfara State, briefed reporters in Gusau on Thursday, stating that the drums were being transported to Kano when they were intercepted. Preliminary investigations have indicated that the chemicals belong to the Zamfara water board. The truck driver responsible for the shipment claimed that a director from the water board had paid him to transport the chemicals to Kano.
The commandant assured that a full investigation would be conducted to bring those involved to justice, highlighting the importance of maintaining the integrity of water treatment processes and safeguarding public health.
