Two More Chibok Schoolgirls Rescued from Sambisa Forest Amid Military Operations

Two more Chibok schoolgirls, who had remained in captivity, were rescued last Sunday following massive troop operations in parts of the Sambisa forest. A reliable security officer at the 7 Div, Maimalari Cantonment, confirmed the development to our correspondent on Monday evening.

Simultaneously, Nigerian troops of the 21 Armored Brigade Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) Bama repelled an attack by the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists on the outskirts of the town in Borno. The terrorists, who stormed the town from the Sambisa axis through Yarimari Gana early Sunday morning, April 24, 2023, attempted to cause havoc.

Furthermore, suspected ISWAP members carried out another attack on a military outpost in Pulka village of Gwoza local government area in Borno state. In this attack, one soldier paid the supreme price.

An officer at the Maimalari Cantonment disclosed that the rescued Chibok schoolgirls were identified as Hauwa Mutah and Esther Markus, with one hailing from Chibok and the other from Dzilang village. These findings indicate that the number of Chibok schoolgirls still in captivity has now reduced from 98 to 96.
