Atiku Abubakar: We will end banditry if elected

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has promised that banditry in Zamfara State will be eliminated under a PDP-led Federal Government.

Atiku, who held a campaign event in Gusau on Monday, pledged to rebuild Bakalori Dam to improve agricultural irrigation in the state. He said that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government is to blame for the recent wave of insecurity across the country. He specifically mentioned Borno and Yobe states as having been hit hard.

“They brought insecurity, poverty, and disunity; our youth are not attending school because teachers are not paid in secondary and tertiary institutions.

“With your vote, you will expunge them. I promise to restore peace and security in Nigeria. I have done it in the past (and) I see no reason why with your support and backing, by the grace of God, there won’t be peace in Nigeria,” the PDP candidate stated.

He said the state government would assist in revitalising the defunct textile firms and that private investors would be encouraged to reinvest in the industry to create new jobs.

“We will open (closed) borders because it is not in line with the law. Our borders are closed while others are open; there is no justice in this,” he stated.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the vice presidential candidate, predicted that the PDP would win more than 80% of the vote in Zamfara State.
