Uba Sani, Senator representing Kaduna Central District in the upper legislative chamber, on Tuesday, condemned bandits’ attacks on various communities in the 23 local governments of Kaduna State.
Senator Uba Sani, who recently declared his intention to contest the governorship position on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023, described the deadly attacks as disheartening, adding that the bandits are getting emboldened by the day and are becoming more brazen.
He lamented the terrorist attacks on nine villages in the Giwa Local Government Area of the state in the early hours of last Friday.
According to him, the attacks, which happened across nine villages of Angwan Sarki Yahya, Tashar Shari, Bare-Bari, Tsaunin Natal, Dillalai, Durumi and JatinKanwa, all in Yakawada Ward, and claimed over 50 lives while no fewer than 100 villagers including a Catholic priest, were abducted by the hoodlums, was devastating, uncalled for, and stand condemned.
He said the unrelenting attacks calls to question the strategies and tactics being adopted by security forces.
“We expected that with the declaration of bandits as terrorists, they will be degraded in no time. This appears not to be happening,” he said.
He charged the security agencies to restrategise and come up with workable and effective solutions to the menace of terrorists in the Giwa Local Government in particular and Kaduna State in general.
“A comprehensive operational plan, executed with a high sense of professionalism and responsibility, will rid Kaduna State forests of these murderous elements. What we need is a total commitment on the part of our security forces and the support and cooperation of the local communities,” he said.
“Security is local. That is why I have been in the forefront of advocacy and pushing of bills in the Senate for State Police. We must bring law enforcement closer to the people. Effective gathering of intelligence and sustained security operations at the local level will make life uncomfortable for terrorists. They will have no operational base.
“I urge our people to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to security operatives. Terrorists are not spirits. They live in our midst. We must have zero tolerance for them. The damage they are doing to our communities is unimaginable.”
DAILYPOST recalls that bandits have been terrorising residents of Kaduna state since last week, as they first launched an attack on Kagoro community on Sunday, killing over 30, burnt houses, kidnapped scores.
They migrated to the Giwa Local Government Area of the state, attacked nine villages, killed over 50, burnt houses, a church and kidnapped scores of residents.
In less than 24 hours, they unleashed mayhem at Kaduna International Airport, killed a security guard, and delayed aircraft from taking off.
In a dramatic turn of events, they attacked an Abuja-Kaduna train with over 950 passengers on board. As of the time of filing this report, the Kaduna State Government who confirmed the development on Tuesday, said relevant agencies are still evacuating the ill-fated train’s passengers.
