Lack of cash will have impact on soldiers in remote places — NSA

The National Security Adviser, NSA, Babagana Monguno, said naira scarcity and the cashless policy will affect military personnel deployed to remote places.

Monguno stated this on Thursday at the hearing organised by an adhoc committee of the House of Representatives looking into currency redesign and naira swap policy.

The NSA, who was represented by A.A. Mustapha, a director in the Office of National Security Adviser, ONSA, said there is an ongoing effort to address the challenge.

“Globally, military operations, even in First World countries, such policies, if not properly well thought out will affect some of our soldiers in places where they cannot actually access digital means of paying for their daily subsistence,” he said.

Earlier in his speech, the chairman of the committee, Ado Doguwa, said: “It is the belief of this committee that the policy would have, in one way or the other, certain implications [for] the security apparatus or security architecture of the country, especially when we are facing elections.”
