He said that late Yar’Adua told him that he (Yar’Adu) recommended Atiku to the late MKO Abiola for Vice President but the Yoruba-born politician declined and instead opted for Kingibe.
Abiola and Kingibe were adjudged to have won the 1993 presidential election, although the final results were not announced.
Atiku went on to emerge the Vice President after ruling alongside with President Olusegun Obasanjo.
He also contested the 2019 presidential election on the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and was defeated by President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Shehu Sani, who spared the details on why Abiola refused to pick Atiku as running mate, tweeted, “While we were in Kirikiri Prisons in 1995, the great late Shehu Yar’adua told me that he recommended to Abiola to take Atiku as his Vice President but Abiola took Kingibe.”
