On Friday morning, bandits kidnapped no fewer than 80 children in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The victims, aged between 12 and 17, were reportedly in the bush fetching firewood when the attackers surrounded and marched them into the forest, according to BBC Hausa.
Parents of the abducted children, who spoke to the British broadcaster, expressed their distress over the incident. Despite various government interventions, bandit activities persist in Zamfara, with hundreds of schoolchildren having been kidnapped and some released after ransoms were paid.
At the time of BBC’s report, the abductors had not yet contacted the parents with any demands.
