Zamfara Police Free Nine Kidnapped Victims, 85 Remain Captive

The Zamfara State Police Command has announced the rescue of nine kidnap victims from Kucheri village in Tsafe Local Government Area. According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Mohammed Shehu, the police tactical operatives achieved the rescue last Wednesday.

Shehu’s statement detailed that the rescue followed credible information from a good Samaritan, which led to the successful liberation of the hostages. After debriefing, the victims were reunited with their families.

Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Kolo Yusuf, reiterated the police’s commitment to maintaining the fight against banditry and other criminal activities.

However, in a related incident, bandits reportedly collected a N3 million levy imposed on Wanzamai village, where about 85 people, primarily women and children, were kidnapped. Despite receiving the ransom, the bandits refused to release the victims, claiming the N3 million was for two motorcycles damaged by military personnel.

Abubakar Na’Allah, an indigene of the area, expressed the community’s uncertainty about what steps to take next.
