Sokoto State’s National and State House of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal Panel 2 is set to hold its inaugural sitting today, according to a notice issued by the tribunal secretary, Sunday Martins. The inaugural session will take place at Court 6 in the High Court complex, Sokoto.
Expected to attend the inaugural sitting are several key state officials including the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, the Director of Department of State Services, the Commissioner of Police, and the state chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Up to this point, the tribunal has received 17 petitions pertaining to the March 18, 2023 governorship and House of Assembly elections. These include one governorship and 16 House of Assembly petitions submitted by various aggrieved contenders from both the APC and the PDP.
The APC has filed petitions for 10 House of Assembly seats in the constituencies of Shagari, Sokoto North, Tureta, Bodinga North, Tambuwal East, Gada, Silame, Goronyo, Isa, and Tambuwal West. Meanwhile, the PDP has submitted one petition for the governorship and six petitions for Assembly seats in the Sokoto South II, Sabon Birni North, Sabon Birni South, Binji, Kebbe, and Kware constituencies.
