Rescind your decision on ‘no school fees, no exam’ policy – NANS appeals to LAUTECH

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), in Oyo State has appealed to the management of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), to rescind its decision on the ‘no school fees, no exam’ policy.

NANS in statement made available to DAILY POST on Wednesday, urged the institution to show compassion and accommodate students who are yet to pay their school fees in the forthcoming first semester examinations scheduled to commence on Monday 6th of May, 2019.

According to NANS, the ‘No Tuition-No Examination policy’ if implemented, will prevent over 9,000 students from writing their examinations.

Chairman of the Joint Campus Committee (JCC), of NANS in the state, Mr. Olujuwon Asubiojo, said over 2,000 of these 9,000 students are final year students who have over stayed in school.

Asubiojo insisted that the delay is due to the incessant industrial actions embarked upon by staff unions that left the institution shut for over 13 months in the past.

He said that the need for the institution to rescind its decision was necessary in view of the present economic realities of the country.

He said, “Therefore, preventing these final years students will sadly secure them an automatic extra year – an of course other students an undue overstay on campus.

“NANS Oyo State, therefore, appeal to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Michael O. Ologunde led management to act as loco parentis by showing compassion for the sake of the indigent and final year students, kindly allow these students sit for their examinations.

“While NANS trusts that they will grant this appeal in good faith, we extend our regards of the highest order. Thanks and God bless.”
