1. The governorship election in Edo State was conducted yesterday by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, amid claim of rigging violence and ballot snatching by both leading contending parties – the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress.

Results are beginning to trickle in from polling centres across the State. Gov, Godwin Obaseki is ahead of APC candidate, Pastor Ize-Iyamu.

2. Pro-Democracy and Human Rights group, Concerned Nigerians, has called on the EU, US and UK to reject alleged plans to compromise the results of Edo governorship election.

The Convener of the rights group, Deji Adeyanju, in a statement made available to journalists said there are ongoing plans by some political actors to change the results of Edo North.

3. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said the delay in the receipt of collated results of the governorship election from local government areas in Edo is responsible for the delay at the collation at the state level.

INEC National Commissioner May Agbamuche-Mbu on Sunday in Benin speaking to newsmen and party agents at the state collation centre, INEC headquarters, Benin, said that results were still being expected from the 18 local government areas of the state.

4. Former governor, Peter Obi has warned the people of Edo state to be vigilant to as results trickle in.

Obi appealed to Edo people to defy all odd and ensure the ballots are collated adequately.

5. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reacted to allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the All Progressives Congress (APC) are making plans to alter the results of the governorship election in Edo North.

Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, told newsmen that INEC is following through its processes and procedures for a successful and credible election.

6. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 189 new cases of COVID-19 infections in the country, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 57,145.

The agency stated that the 189 new infections were reported from 15 states of the federation.

7. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of mounting pressure on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to alter the results of the governorship election in various parts of Edo State in favour of the APC.

In a statement, Kola Ologbondiyan, National Publicity Secretary of the party, noted: “We have been informed that the INEC Chairman has come under intense pressure from the APC to allow the replacement of results declared in the riverine areas of Edo State in order to jerk up figures for the APC.

8. Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and the Chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council for the Edo Governorship election has warned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against declaring Saturday’s election inconclusive.

Wike, who applauded INEC and the security agencies, said he is still worried despite no report of violence so far.

9. Atiku Abubakar, a former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has appealed to Edo people to protect their votes.

Atiku told the people not to relax on vigilance.

10. Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the full reopening of worship centres in the state.

Sanwo-Olu, who made the announcement at a briefing in Lagos on Saturday, said Mosques can now hold their prayers five times daily while churches can also commence weekly services.
