The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a warning about a fake LinkedIn account falsely attributed to its Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Prof Umar Garba Danbatta. In an official statement by the Commission’s Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, both NCC and Prof Danbatta disassociate themselves from the fraudulent account.
The statement urges the public to exercise caution when receiving communication or connection requests from this fake LinkedIn account, as it is operated by scammers seeking to deceive unsuspecting individuals. The NCC further emphasizes the importance of verifying the authenticity of online accounts, particularly those claiming affiliation with public figures or organizations.
The Commission advises the public to connect only with verified and official accounts of the NCC and its representatives. The NCC also warns the individuals behind the fake LinkedIn account that their actions constitute criminal activity, and legal action will be pursued if they are apprehended. The NCC remains dedicated to safeguarding the public from online fraud and maintaining a secure online environment.
