Between January and March, the Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has secured the conviction of 37 drug peddlers and users. State Commander Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad shared this information with the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano on Monday.
According to Idris-Ahmad, the command arrested 352 suspects during this period. Besides the 37 convicted by the Federal High Court, the command filed 39 new cases, while 127 other cases remain pending.
From January to March, the agency confiscated 955.304 kg of cannabis sativa, 1,225.05 kg of Codeine and Tramadol, 25 grams of cocaine, 17 grams of heroine, and 52 grams of methamphetamine.
Idris-Ahmad stated that the agency has made significant progress in its drug demand reduction efforts, educating over 5,060 people, including secondary and tertiary students, traders associations, vigilante groups, and political thugs, about the dangers of drug abuse.
The commander urged residents to provide the agency with information on drug dealers’ activities in their communities and called on the public, parents, and community leaders to monitor their wards to combat drug trafficking and abuse.
Idris-Ahmad emphasized that the agency will continue its efforts to fight drug abuse and trafficking and ensure a drug-free society throughout the state.
