Troops of Operation Forest Sanity confirmed that they ambushed and neutralized two bandits in Kaduna State on Tuesday. Lt-Col Musa Yahaya, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 1 Division Nigerian Army, announced the incident in a statement.
According to Yahaya, after receiving a tip from an intelligence source, troops from Operation Forest Sanity, under the 1 Division Nigerian Army, ambushed and effectively neutralized two bandit leaders, seizing arms, ammunition, and other equipment.
The statement partly read, “An earlier intelligence source revealed that a bandit leader named Isiya Danwasa intended to send his errand boy Yunusa to purchase some arms and ammunition in Kaduna town. Subsequently, the errand boy was trailed and picked up by plain cloth soldiers and later used to lure two of the bandits’ leaders to a selected ammunition collection point.”
Upon the bandits’ arrival, the troops engaged them with superior firepower and neutralized them. Items recovered from the bandits included a motorcycle, two AK-47 rifles, six AK-47 magazines, 250 rounds of 7.62 mm special, a power bank, two charm vests, and N200,000.
Maj-Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, the General Officer Commanding of the 1 Division Nigerian Army and Force Commander for the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Punch, praised the troops for their professionalism and flawless execution. He also urged the troops to show no mercy to bandits and pursue them relentlessly.
The statement also called on the public to continue providing credible and actionable information to the troops and other security agencies to put an end to banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities.
