The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has inflicted a series of attacks in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, resulting in the tragic loss of three Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and injuries to 13 others, including eight soldiers.
Reports indicate that four loggers, who resided at the Lowcost camp, ventured out approximately 7km from Damboa to gather firewood. It was during this routine activity that the terrorists launched their deadly assault, killing three individuals, while the survivors managed to escape, albeit with bullet injuries.
Members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) received a report of the incident from the surviving victims. “We recovered three dead bodies from the scene, all shot in the heads. They have been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites,” a CJTF source disclosed.
In a separate incident, ISWAP attackers clashed with troops at the Talala enclave, resulting in an unspecified number of casualties among the terrorists. This confrontation led to the injury of 12 people, including eight soldiers.
In the aftermath of the attack, a military helicopter was dispatched to Damboa to transport the wounded soldiers to Maiduguri for urgent medical treatment.
A vigilante member involved in the operation recounted the incident, stating that the ISWAP fighters employed RPGs against the troops, resulting in unfortunate casualties. This recent surge in attacks underlines the persistent security challenges facing Borno State.
