The fake soldier was arrested along Refinery road near Ekpan Police Station on Saturday, March 13.
It was learnt that the fake Army Major had ordered two Air Force Personnel to open fire on a commercial tricycle operator who defiled his order to stop for search on the road.
The Air Force Personnel obeyed thinking he was a real soldier and in the process, a bullet hit a woman who was walking by.
This prompted the Police and sympathizers to come out and the fake soldier was arrested.
After the Police interrogated him, they handed the suspect to the authority of the Nigerian Army 3 Battalion in Effurun who also handed him (suspect) back to the Police after they(Army) found out that the suspect was a fake Major.
The new Divisional Police Officer in Ekpan directed our correspondent to call the PPRO on the matter when he(DPO) was contacted.
Contacted, the Acting Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Orisewejie Chuks confirmed the report.
ASP Chuks who did not give the name of the suspect said, “It is true. Somebody was arrested for impersonating as Army.
According to ASP Chuks, “They said he has been doing that for a very long time. He has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID.”
It was gathered that the fake Army Major had allegedly collected money forcefully from some of the companies operating within Ekpan community.
