Gov Buni Supports Deputy Speaker Wase’s Bid for House Speakership Amid Competing Aspirations

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, former National Chairman of the defunct Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has endorsed the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Idris Wase, for the House Speakership position. This comes as another aspirant, Muktar Betara, vows to continue his bid for the position, regardless of whether it is zoned to his north-east geopolitical region.

In a statement from Betara’s campaign group, Betara National Patriotic Mandate, the group’s national coordinator, Mallam Maigari Al-Amin, said they would fight on and win the speakership race, regardless of zoning decisions. Meanwhile, Governor Buni, while receiving Wase at his residence in Abuja, praised his loyalty and experience, stating that the APC and the House of Representatives need Wase more than he needs them.

As the race for the House Speakership intensifies, it is crucial for the APC and the House of Representatives to ensure a transparent and democratic process in selecting the next leader. The endorsement of Deputy Speaker Ahmed Idris Wase by Governor Mai Mala Buni highlights the importance of loyalty and experience in the selection process.

However, other aspirants, such as Muktar Betara, remain determined to continue their bid for the position. This emphasizes the need for the APC to carefully manage the aspirations of its members and provide a level playing field for all candidates.

The selection of the next Speaker will have significant implications for the House of Representatives and the APC, as it will impact the direction of legislative agendas and party cohesion. It is essential for the party to unite behind the chosen candidate and focus on addressing the nation’s pressing challenges.
