Former NAF Spokesperson Air Commodore Maigida Passes Away

Former Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Wapkerem Maigida, has tragically passed away.

Maigida reportedly collapsed and died on Sunday in Abuja. He took over as DOPRI on January 6, 2023, succeeding Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, who now serves as Commander 551 NAF Station, Jos. Interestingly, Maigida had previously handed over the position of Commander NAF Station, Jos, to Gabkwet.

Having served as Aide-de-Camp to former Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Jonah Wuyep, Maigida was the 18th DOPRI and a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations. He was commissioned into the NAF in 1995 as a member of the 42 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy.

Air Commodore Maigida held various academic qualifications, including a Master of Science Degree in Security and Strategic Studies and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History, both from the Nigerian Defence Academy. He also earned a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations and Advertisement from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism in Lagos.

Throughout his career, Maigida attended numerous military courses in Nigeria and abroad. Prior to his most recent appointment, he served as Commander of 551 NAF Station, Jos.
