Ex-minister, others arrested over destruction of campaign billboards

A former minister of state for information and senatorial candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election, Ikrah Aliyu Bilbis, has been arrested along with others by the Zamfara State Police Command for the alleged destruction of campaign billboards belonging to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Aliyu Adamu Barmo, a PDP chieftain, raised the alarm to journalists in Gusau, the state capital, about the arrest of PDP members in light of the arrival of the former PDP governorship candidate, Dauda Lawan Dare.

According to Barmo, the APC-led government’s decision to utilise the police against the PDP chieftains was catastrophic.

Dauda Lawan Dare’s trip to his home state was perfectly within his rights as a human being, he said.

Mukhtar Lugga, the PDP’s interim state chairman, has also spoken out against the government’s detention of PDP members. He claimed that the proper authorities had authorised Sunday’s PDP rally.

SP Muhammad Shehu, the spokesman for the Zamfara State Police Command, did not reply to many calls and text messages sent on his known phone number before the filing of this story.
