Ekiti guber: Shun campaigns of calumny – Police warn political parties

Ahead of the June 18, governorship election in Ekiti State, political parties and contestants have been advised to run their campaigns in line with the dictates of the constitution and electoral act of the country.

The new Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Morenikeji Adesina, who gave the advice during a chat with newsmen in his office, also confirmed that all political parties have the right under the law to hold rallies in any community or council without fear of intimidation.

According to the CP, political parties and their flag bearers are expected to tell the electorate what they intend to offer rather than disparaging and discrediting their opponents.

He noted that the attitude of attacking opponents has been a major factor contributing to violence, urging all actors to play the game by the rule.

CP Adesina also urged political parties to always educate their followers on electoral guidelines so as not to enable them run afoul of any law in the course of politicking.

He said the police were ever ready to provide adequate security for every citizen irrespective of differences urging political parties to cooperate with the command.
