Dino Melaye Promises Progress for Lokoja, Condemns Yahaya Bello’s Governance in Kogi State

Former Senator and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kogi State, Dino Melaye, has criticized the Kogi State Government under Yahaya Bello of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for allowing the state capital, Lokoja, to deteriorate to the level of a glorified local government area. Melaye recently won the PDP governorship primary, emerging as the party’s candidate for the upcoming election in November.

During an interview with Arise TV, Melaye discussed his plans for Kogi State if he wins the election, including increased Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), support for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and a boost in employment. He stated that it is time for him and his co-aspirants to unite and rescue Kogi State from maladministration, insecurity, corruption, and other challenges facing the state. Melaye also called for efforts to improve Lokoja, claiming it currently resembles a glorified local government area.

In response to criticism from Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike regarding Melaye’s victory in the party’s primary election, Melaye accused Wike of suffering from post-election trauma and witch-hunting him for not supporting his 2023 presidential ambition. Attempts to reach Kogi State Commissioner for Information Kingsley Fanwo for comment on Melaye’s claims were unsuccessful.
