Coronavirus: Five Greek islands removed from quarantine list for England, Wales and Northern Ireland | UK News

Travellers returning from the Greek islands of Lesbos, Tinos, Serifos, Santorini and Zakynthos will no longer need to self-isolate.

The relaxed measures will apply to people returning to England, Wales and Northern Ireland – but Scotland is yet to confirm whether it will follow suit.

It follows a drop in new coronavirus infections on these islands, and will come into effect at 4am on Saturday.

However, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has said no countries are going to be removed from England’s quarantine list this week.

Last week, Britons in Turkey and Poland were left scrambling to find tickets back to the UK.

If they arrived back home after 4am on Saturday, they would have had to self-isolate for a fortnight.

The Caribbean islands of Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba were also placed on the list that requires travellers to quarantine upon return.

Mr Shapps also revealed last week that people who repeatedly refuse to self-isolate will be fined up to ÂŁ10,000.

The week before Turkey and Poland were added to the self-isolation list, it was announced that people returning from Denmark, Iceland, Slovakia and the Caribbean island of Curacao would have to quarantine.
