Buhari Hails Army’s ‘Decisive Response To Initial Setbacks In The North-East’


President Muhammadu Buhari has commended the efforts of the Nigerian Army on curbing insecurity.

The President gave the commendation at a meeting with Lieutenant General T.Y. Buratai, Chief of Army Staff, on Friday during which the latter briefed him on the military’s efforts aimed at countering-terrorism and insurgency.

Buhari said he was impressed with the “decisive response of the COAS to the initial setbacks in the North East”.

Buhari also commended the troops on “dealing with bandits in the North West, especially Zamfara”.

News of the visit was disclosed via a tweet on the Nigerian Army’s handle, which read: “JUST IN: The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen TY Buratai briefed the C-in-C today 21 September 2018 on the Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency efforts in the North East. The C-in-C was impressed with the decisive response of the COAS to the initial setbacks in the North East.

“The C-in-C also commended the troops efforts in dealing with the bandits in the North West especially Zamfara State. The COAS seized the opportunity to pledge the unalloyed loyalty of the officers and men of the Nigerian Army to the C-in-C.

“He also assured Mr President @MBuhari of the Nigerian Army’s resolve to continuously protect the territorial integrity of the country as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution.”
