South Africa vs Nigeria: Gernot Rohr indicates goalkeeper for 2019 AFCON qualifier

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has given a hint regarding who is likely to be in goal during Nigeria’s Nations Cup qualifying match with South Africa on Saturday.

Rohr’s first choice goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho, has been ruled out of the match due to injury.

The battle of who mans the goal is now between South Africa-based Daniel Akpeyi and Enyimba’s third choice goalie, Ikechukwu Ezenwa.

The German football tactician has mentioned three advantages which Chippa United goalkeeper, Akpeyi has over Ezenwa.

”There’s competition between Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi. The advantage of Akpeyi is that he knows South Africa, he knows very well their players. It will be a home game for him,” said Rohr to allnigeriasoccer

On Ezenwa, he added, ”The advantage of Ezenwa is that he is in the group already, he played three matches in the World Cup qualifiers, decisive matches against Cameroon, he did very well and also in Algeria.

”We will see with the goalkeeper coaches what will be done. At the moment, the two are able to play.”

Poor goalkeeping by Daniel Akpeyi contributed to Super Eagles’ 2-0 defeat in the reversed fixture of the clash in Uyo.
