Soleimani’s killing: What France President, Macron agreed with Iraq on Saturday

French President Emmanuel Macron has met his Iraqi counterpart, President Barham Salih, following the killing of Qassem Soleimani, Iranian army General.

Maj.-Gen. Qassem Soleimani, Commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, was killed in a US airstrike on his convoy at Baghdad airport on Friday rising the tension of another World War.

The airstrike, which was an order from US President Donald Trump, has since generated a lot of controversies and reactions from world leaders.

The meeting, according Macron’s office, was to make efforts to dampen tensions in the Middle East.

“The two presidents agreed to remain in close contact to avoid any further escalation in tensions and in order to act to ensure stability in Iraq and the broader region,” Macron’s office said, according Aljazeera.

Macron also discussed the situation with the defacto ruler of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan.

“The two leaders underlined the importance of fighting the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS) and dealing with the political crisis in Libya,” the statement added.
