Rivers APC crisis: Supreme Court judgment delays matter in Appeal Court

The Appeal Court sitting in Port Harcourt will on October 31 adopt written addresses on the appeal filed by the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ojukaye Flag-Amachree and his executives, seeking to join in the matter involving Ibrahim Umar and twenty-two other short-changed members of the party.

The Appeal Court will also hear the issue of Jurisdiction filed by Umar and others on the same day.

Emenike Ebete, counsel to the APC and Ojukaye Flag-Amachree had asked the court to adjourn till October 29 but was objected by Henry Bello, counsel to Ibrahim Umar and twenty-two others, who asked for two weeks to enable him study the Supreme Court judgment.

The Appeal Panel led by Justice Ali Gumel adjourned the matter till next week to enable all parties study the judgement of the Supreme Court on the matter.

Speaking with newsmen after the sitting, Emenike Ebete and Prince Azunda, who are counsels to the APC and Ojukaye Flag-Amachree, said they were concerned about the date because of the political implications of the matter.

“We think all parties need to study the certified true copy of the Supreme Court Judgment. It will guide us going forward in the matter,” Ebete said.

Meanwhile, counsel to Ibrahim Umar and twenty-two others, Henry Bello declined comment on the matter.

Recall that Justice Chiwendu Nworgu of the High Court in Port Harcourt had last made a consequential order nullifying all actions taken by the Ojukaye Flag Amachree led All Progressives Congress in Rivers state.

Justice Nworgu ordered that the nomination and subsequent election of candidates for the Governorship seat and all elective positions in the APC in the State is null, void and of no effect.
