Presidency, CCB join forces against corruption

The Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property, on Thursday, said it was partnering with the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) for more effective war against corruption.

A statement by Head, Media and Communication, Ms Lucie-Ann Laha, in Abuja, said that the partnership was struck when Chairman of the Panel, Mr Okoi Obono-Obla visited CCB Chairman, Prof. Mohammed Isah.

It said that Obono-Obla acknowledged the position of CCB as the oldest anti-corruption agency in Nigeria, and commended the Bureau for its bold efforts toward achieving its mandate.

The statement added that the panel chairman debunked the notion that the body was a duplication of the CCB’s duties.

“Obono-Obla added that the Panel and CCB should, in fact, collaborate for more effectiveness in delivering on President Muhammadu Buhari’s avowed war on corruption,’’ it said.

“We will transfer some of our case files of persons who have been found to have violated the statutory provision for declaration of assets to the CCB for further action.

“These persons include two serving senators and a permanent secretary,” the statement quoted Obono-Obla as saying.

It said that Isah, on his part, commended the panel chairman for extending a hand of friendship to CCB.

“Isah reiterated the need for collaboration and cooperation among sister anti-corruption agencies to achieve the desired result,’’ the statement said.
