1. Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, yesterday, fired 99 political appointees. El-Rufai, who made the disclosure at a media chat with some Kaduna-based broadcast journalists, explained that the disengaged appointees constitute 30 percent of political office holders.
2. Former Emir of Kano and new caliph of the Tijaniyya sect in Nigeria, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has said he has no intention of running for any political position in the country. Sanusi, who stated this in Kaduna said he will continue to educate the public on the right candidates to vote for during elections.
3. One of the students abducted from the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, Kebbi State, was yesterday shot dead in an exchange of gunfire between troops and bandits.
4. Governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have resolved to implement judiciary and legislative autonomy in their states. The governors held an emergency meeting in Abuja on Friday.
5. The Senate Public Accounts Committee has declared that its investigations so far revealed that civil servants are more corrupt than the political class. The Chairman of SPAC, Senator Matthew Urhoghide, stated this in an interview in Abuja yesterday.
6. President Muhammadu Buhari will be participating in the 59th Ordinary Session of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government in Accra, on Saturday (today). His spokesman, Garba Shehu made this known in a statement yesterday.
7. A syndicate allegedly supplying drugs, bread and other food items to bandits operating in Zaria, Kaduna State and its environs has been smashed by operatives of the FIB Intelligence Response Team (FIB-IRT). The state’s police command confirmed the development.
8. Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has said his successor will demolish more houses than he has done in the state. The governor, who made the comment at a media chat aired on radio stations on Friday, said residents of the state now appreciate the urban development being executed across the state by his administration.
9. President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, assured Nigerians that he will continue to work dedicatedly to achieve the objectives that the administration set out to achieve in 2015. He gave the assurance Friday at State House Abuja, when he received in audience members of the Muhammadu Buhari and Osinbajo Dynamic Support Group.
10. The federal government has appointed former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, as Youth Ambassador. This was confirmed on Friday, at an event held at the National Stadium, Lagos, which was attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare.
