During an annual special lecture organized by Tadhamunil Muslimeen (OTM) in Ibadan, Oyo State, Sheikh Imran Abdul Mojeed Eleha, Proprietor of Darul Na’im, urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritize the security of lives and property. Highlighting the high rate of kidnappings, extortion, and killings, the cleric called on the administration to display exemplary leadership in addressing the security situation in the country.
In his lecture titled “Exemplary Leadership,” Sheikh Eleha underscored the importance of strong leadership, noting that “a leaderless society is a bad one because for every group, God has created a leader.” He further reminded the citizenry of their responsibility to uphold justice and practice equity to enjoy good leadership. Quoting scholar Ibn Taymiyyah, he said that even an unbeliever’s just government would receive divine assistance, while an unjust government led by a Muslim would lose its dignity.
The Sheikh also pointed out societal injustices, such as manipulated measurements and adulterated goods, questioning the expectation of successful leadership in a society where people cheat one another. He quoted Prophet Muhammad (SAW) saying that any nation where measurements are manipulated suffers hunger, inflation, and poor leadership.
Dr. Amoo Alaga praised committed leaders who contributed to societal growth and development, suggesting that good leadership transcends religious beliefs. He cited the late Prof. Dora Akunyili and Prof. Ishaq Oloyede as examples of leaders who would have widespread support due to their dedication to the public good, irrespective of their religious affiliations.
