Houses Submerged, Many Homeless As Flood Wreaks Havoc In Ilorin

200 houses were submerged and many people were rendered homeless following, the flooding incident that occurred in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Wednesday..

The most affected areas are Aduralere and lsale Koko communities in Ilorin East Local Government Area.

The victims are now taking refuge in churches, mosques, and with neighbours.

A victim, Abdurasheed Jimoh, said most of his properties were gone.

“This is not the first time we are experiencing flood in our community, but this one came with a bitter experience as the drainage got filled and houses suddenly went under.

“Most of the buildings here have been submerged and occupants have lost all their property.”

Chairman of Aduralere, Alhaji Tunde Aremu, said victims could not salvage any of their belongings.

He attributed the flood to the blocked drainage, which passes through the communities.

Aremu called on the government to clear the blockage and expand the drainage system to allow free flow of water.

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed’s Special Adviser on Emergency and Relief Services, AbdulRasaq Jimoh, said he was not aware of the flooding.
