France defeat Spain in UEFA Nations League final

France came from behind to beat Spain 2-1 and win the UEFA Nations League on Sunday.

Mikel Oyarzabal opened the scoring for Luis Enrique’s side, moments after Theo Hernandez hit the underside of the crossbar.

Les Blues responded immediately, with Kylian Mbappe finding Karim Benzema, who curled in an unstoppable effort

With 10 minutes left in the game, Mbappe broke free to score the winner.

“We showed our character against a very strong team. We never gave up.

“It shows what great teams do — never panic, be patient and wait for the right time.

“We are going to enjoy this trophy and then go get the World Cup [next year],” Benzema said.

Nations League, which is just in its second edition, is UEFA’s secondary tournament for national teams.
