Governor-elect of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, and deputy governor-elect, Prof Kaletapwa Farauta, have received their Certificates of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja. The certificates were presented to the newly re-elected governor and his deputy around 5pm on Wednesday at INEC’s national headquarters.
Fintiri, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, was declared the winner by Returning Officer Muhammed Melee on Tuesday after securing 430,861 votes, defeating his main rival, Aisha Binani of the All Progressives Congress, who garnered 398,788 votes. The supplementary election took place on Saturday, April 15, following the declaration of the March 18 election as inconclusive due to irregularities.
In his acceptance speech, Fintiri expressed humility and thanked the people of Adamawa for voting for continuity. He also criticized the actions of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hudu Yunusa-Ari, who had previously declared Binani the winner, calling it “below expectation.”
