FCE Yola closed following riot by students over water scarcity

The Federal College of Education, Yola, has been shut.
This followed a riot by students who protested Tuesday morning over the lack of water around the campus.
The management of the College closed down the school, located in the heart of Jimeta, the administrative section of the Adamawa State capital, as things threatened to get out of hand.
Sources said the students went wild over water scarcity and the school management reacted by shutting down the school.

Some of the students were still moving out of their hostels, but the majority were already out by the gates of the college waiting for vehicles that would convey them out of Yola by the time our correspondent visited the place in the later hours of Tuesday morning.
Registrar of the college, Mallam Ahmad Gidado, told newsmen that the water scarcity was caused by the breakdown of the main industrial borehole supplying water to the entire school.
According to him, the management swung into action on hearing about the water challenge earlier on Monday, by immediately asking the Department of Works and Services to fix the problem.
“We made all the necessary moves, only to wake up to see students rioting this morning,” Gidado said.
He said the Provost of the College had directed a water tanker to supply water after the breakdown of the industrial borehole but yet the students were adamant.
Gidado said the school was closed down till further notice to curtail further breakdown of law and order.
