European Golden Shoe: Mbappe loses out to Messi after PSG defeat

Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi, is set to win the European Golden Shoe this season, after his nearest challenger Kylian Mbappe fell short.

Mbappe could only score once, as Paris Saint-Germain ended their Ligue 1 season with a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Stade de Reims.

Left-back Baba Rahman, on loan from Chelsea, opened the scoring before the break and Mathieu Cafaro doubled it shortly after.

Despite Kylian Mbappe halving the deficit, Pablo Chavarria struck with the final kick of the game to seal the unlikely win.

Mbappe’s consolation goal means he ends the season with 33 league goals, three behind Barcelona’s Lionel Messi in the race for the Golden Shoe, which given to the top scorer in Europe through a ranking system.
