COVID-19: Corpse seized, Air Force officer, 50 Kano-bound buses arrested for violating curfew in Ondo

A corpse, as well as over 50 Kano-bound vehicles have been apprehended by the Ondo State Special Task Force on COVID-19 for breaching the dusk-to-dawn curfew in the state.
Among those apprehended was an Air Force officer, who was using his vehicle for commercial purposes during the curfew.
It was gathered that vehicles filled with hundreds of passengers mostly northerners, were apprehended close to the FUTA North Gate axis of the Akure-Ilesa Highway following intelligence reports that they had overwhelmed the security at the Owena, Osun State boundary.
Also, a corpse billed for burial in Kogi State was seized by the Task Force Team when it nabbed the hearse conveying it for violating the order on the dusk-to-dawn curfew.
Recall that Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu had declared curfew in the state in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Besides the curfew, Governor Akeredolu also shut borders across the state to all persons and vehicles except those conveying food and other essentials.
According to the Special Adviser to Governor Akeredolu, Mr. Tobi Ogunleye, who led the Task Force Team, the vehicles were apprehended for violating the directive on curfew in the state and regulation on over loading including travelling interstate.
Ogunleye said some security operatives were frustrating efforts to curb COVID-19 by allowing travellers into the state.
He added that an Air Force officer who became a commercial driver during the curfew hours was arrested.
Meanwhile, the passengers in the buses said they were returning to their villages in Kano State so that they could feed because ‘Lagos is now dry’.
A special team was mandated to escort the travellers out of the state.
