Champions League: Rio Ferdinand reveals why Hazard will regret joining Real Madrid

Ex-Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand, believes Eden Hazard may live to regret joining Real Madrid.

The Belgian ended his seven-year stay at Chelsea last summer, to join Madrid in a deal worth an estimated ÂŁ88m.

Injuries have disrupted Hazard’s start at the Bernabeu and he was well below-par in Madrid’s 3-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Speaking after the game, Ferdinand says he fears Hazard has moved to the club at the wrong time.

“When you go to a new club, especially the size of Real Madrid, you have got to earn the right to be the man that gets the ball, that they look to first as the talisman.

“He has got to do something in the training games and in the games itself, to make them want to give him the ball.

“I’m fearful for him really that he has gone to Real Madrid at the wrong time.

“This is an ageing side, they are not on the way up and they have not got much spark about them at the moment, and that is going to reflect on him, badly, in the long term,” Ferdinand said on BT Sport.
