Champions League: Manchester City facing one-year ban

Manchester City could face a one-season ban from the Champions League, if found guilty of financial irregularities, the New York Times reports.

City have been under investigation by a regulatory committee, over a series of leaks into their financial conduct, published in German outlet Der Spiegel.

Officials from UEFA’s financial control board met two weeks ago in Switzerland to finalise their findings, with a submission to be filed possibly as soon as this week.

And it is understood that the body, led by the former Prime Minister of Belgium Yves Leterme, will push for at least a one-season ban from the Champions League.

It would come as a huge blow to City and their mega-rich owners, after Pep Guardiola’s men celebrated a fourth Premier League title in eight seasons on Sunday.
