Though details of the accident are still sketchy, sources around the Mbiama Bridge say the bus skidded off the submerged area.
The source added that a search and rescue operation is underway to find the occupants of the vehicle.
Also, a ten-year-old girl drowned in flood at Okwuzi community in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area, as flooding continues to wreak havoc in Orashi region of Rivers State.
When contacted, spokesman of the Rivers state Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the accident.
Omoni said 8 persons have been rescued so far with the help of professional divers.
He added that, “The commercial bus was en route Yenegoa from Port Harcourt. We can’t say if there are casualties but we are investigating the incident.”
The latest casualty in ONELGA is in addition to ten people who reportedly died in flood-related circumstances in Ahoada West Local Government Area.
A model primary school in Okogbe is being used for IDPs camp for two communities who are said to be the worst hit by flooding.
One of the victims in Okogbe who identified himself as Kenneth told DAILY POST that, “People don’t really understand what is happening here. In fact, the media is under-reporting the situation.
“As I speak to you, many people around the Orashi region are depressed and the government needs to come to our aid before it claims more lives.”
