Benin Republic vs Nigeria: COVID-19 stopped Alex Iwobi as Everton star tests positive

Alex Iwobi was dropped from the Super Eagles XI against Benin Republic on Saturday after testing positive to COVID-19.

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr made one late change for the Cameroon 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match played away in Benin Republic’s Stade Charles de Gaulle in Porto-Novo.

Nigeria won the by 1-0 thanks to a last minute header by Paul Onuachu who came in late in the second half of the game.

Iwobi was earlier named in the team against the sturbon Squirrels, but was withdrawn after returning a positive coronavirus test.

The result came out just before the Gernot Rohr’s side headed to the stadium.

The former Arsenal star was replaced with Galatasaray forward, Henry Onyekuru in the starting lineup.
