Airstrikes kill ISWAP fighters near Borno fishing dam

Nigerian forces annihilated a number of insurgents in massive airstrikes around a fishing dam in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

The bombardment was carried out on Wednesday after Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) members attacked a military formation with a dozen gun trucks.

Ground troops fought the terrorists for over an hour before the Air Task Force (ATF) arrived for aerial support.

The military acted on an intelligence report that indicated a gathering of the terrorists in Duguri Forest.

An officer told PRNigeria that fighter jets rained bombs on the terrorists, eliminating scores of them.

“They were preparing for an attack against nearby troops who were prepared and gallantly engaged them.

“They killed some before the Air Force came and assisted in sending many terrorists to join their ancestors,” the officer added.

After the battle, a clearance operation was conducted to rid the general area of remnants and recover arms.
