Ljungberg said he substituted Ozil because he wanted more energy in the team.
The Gunners boss replaced Ozil with Emile Smith Rowe in the 59 minutes of the encounter as two goals from Kevin De Bruyne and a strike from Raheem Sterling gave Pep Guardiola’s side all three points against Arsenal.
“With the China thing, that’s a political discussion, I’ll leave that for the club to deal with. There will be a statement or there has been a statement,” Ljungberg was quoted by Football London as saying.
“With the other stuff, Ozil should be annoyed when he comes off, but I’m the coach at the moment and I take the decision that I want more energy in the team.
“We are a team that wants possession but sometimes we have to run and tackle. Emile did extremely well in Belgium on Thursday, I wanted to give him a chance and I thought he did well when he came on.”
Arsenal will take on Everton in their next Premier League clash on December 21.
