9th Senate: Gov. Buni reacts to the emergence of Ahmed Lawan as Senate President, Gbajabiala as Speaker

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has saluted the courage of those candidates that contested against Senator Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila for the positions of Senate President and Speaker and subsequently conceding defeat.

The Governor in his words said, “I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation to our Distinguished Senators for their courage to stand firm with the decision of our party in electing Senator Dr. Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila as Senate President and Speaker House of Representatives respectively.

“I equally wish to extend my special gratitude to the APC party leaders, state governors and the entire public for their support and prayers over the campaign and election periods.

“I wish to applaud to the other contestants from our party and other parties respectively for participating in a duly democratic process and gallantly accepting defeat.”

Senator Ahmed Lawan, who hailed from Yobe State, emerged as the Senate President of the 9the Nigerian Senate today after polling 79 votes to defeat Senator Mohammed Ndume from Borno State who got 28 votes.
