Senate okays Abike Dabiri as chairman, diaspora commission

The Senate, Thursday, approved the appointment of Abike Dabiri-Erewa as Chairman/Chief Executive officer of Nigeria Diaspora Commission.

The appointment of Abike followed the submission of the report of Senate committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organization presented by its chairman, Senator Rose Oko representing Cross Rivers north Senatorial district.

In her submission, Senator Oko explained, “In the course of considering the eligibility of the nominee to the position of Chairman and Chief Executive of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, the committee was satisfied with the integrity, exposure, suitability, competence and Abike’s experience in politics while in public life.

“Having screened and carefully scrutinized the curriculum vitae and other documents of the nominee, the committee hereby recommends Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa as chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission”.

In his contribution deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu urged the presidency to also forward the list of board members of the commission to the Senate, noting that as a new board, the nominee was expected to work with other members.

In his remark, Senate President, Bukola Saraki lauded the appointment of Abike Dabiri and urged her to always relate well with the nation’s Ambassadors.
