Kano state governor-elect, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has claimed that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje released millions of naira to local government chairmen to finance Saturday’s supplementary elections in the state. The governor-elect’s Chief Press Secretary, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, made this allegation in a public advisory.
The advisory states that credible information indicates that the Kano State Government, led by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, directed the release of large sums of money to several local government councils. These funds were allegedly intended for sponsoring political thugs to incite violence during the supplementary elections.
The governor-elect’s office has cautioned all local government chairmen and state employees who may be directly or indirectly involved in this act to distance themselves and ensure that the released public funds are not used for these purposes and are returned to the appropriate coffers.
The advisory also calls on security agencies to take swift action against potential violence, as thousands of thugs have allegedly been brought in from within and outside Kano State to disrupt the peace.
This is one of several advisories issued by the incoming governor since his election win. Governor Ganduje has repeatedly advised him to avoid making public statements that undermine the sitting government.
