DEVELOPING: Security Beefed Up At Tribunal of Presidential Election Ahead Of Sitting Today

Security has been beefed up on Wednesday around the Appeal Court Abuja, venue of Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

The tribunal which will commence the pre-hearing session on the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is set to start today.

Vehicular and human movement have been restricted in the area and motorists are asked to use alternative routes. The situation has caused serious traffic gridlock in the area.

Armed soldiers and policemen are currently stationed at the presidential villa gate junction and police headquarters as well as perimeters of the court.

Commuters were seen trekking long distances to get to their destinations. Many people have described the show of force by the security agents as uncalled for and unnecessary.

As at time of this report the tribunal have not commenced sitting.

There are a total of four petitions filed to challenge the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari and his All Progressives Congress in the February 23 poll.

The tribunal led by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, after conducting its inaugural sitting last week Wednesday, went on to call each case one after the other.
