Declaring my seat vacant, an act of lawlessness – Embattled Kogi lawmaker, Eneche tells Speaker

The Member Representing Olamaboro State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon Linus Ojochenemi Eneche, has described the declaration of his seat vacant by the house as an act of lawlessness on the part of lawmakers who ought to know the law.

In a chat with newsmen after the Kogi State House of Assembly declared his seat vacant in a sitting on Tuesday, Hon. Eneche described the lawmakers’ action as null and void most especially that he had gone to a Lokoja High court seeking interpretation of section 109 wanting to know if the Speaker can declare his seat vacant.

Hon. Eneche pointed out that the case ought to have been heard on Tuesday if not for the judiciary that is on strike.

The state lawmaker wondered where is the freedom of the House if they are being directed from outside the Assembly chamber.

He stated that, it was wrong for the State APC Chairman, Abdullahi Bello to have written the house to declare his seat vacant when the House was served about him seeking the interpretation of section 109 until the determination of the substantive matter.

According to the lawmaker, “It was wrong to have deliberated on a matter when it is in court.”

He described the action of the speaker as reckless, since he had gone to seek interpretation, to restrain the speaker from declaring his seat vacant.

The lawmaker said having consulted with the speaker, who said he was directed to declare the seat vacant, wondered how the house would know that he is in court if they had not been served.

Hon. Eneche said the Assembly has refused to pay him for several months now and all efforts to confer with the Speaker on why he was not paid proved abortive as the speaker said he was directed not to pay him.
