As the contest for the House of Representatives speakership in the upcoming 10th National Assembly intensifies, with around 10 lawmakers vying for the prestigious position, Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai is reportedly backing Hon. Tajueed Abass.
Currently serving as the Chairman of the House Committee on Transport, Abass represents Zaria federal constituency in Kaduna State. With about 78 bills, 20 of which have been signed by President Muhammadu Buhari, Abass has sponsored the most bills in the present Assembly.
In the 8th Assembly, which spanned from 2015 to 2019, Abass ranked third with 43 bills and 13 motions. Among the other contenders for the House of Representatives speakership are Hon. Aliyu Betara, Aminu Sani Jaji, Hon. Idris Wase, Hon. Ben Kalu, Hon. Ado Doguwa, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, and Hon. Princess Mariam Onuoha.
A source who requested anonymity stated that Abass will soon officially announce his intention to compete for the House’s top position. The source emphasized that Governor Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai supports Abass’s aspiration due to his strong track record in lawmaking.
Abass holds a diploma in accounting, a B.Sc. in Business Administration, an MBA in the same field from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Ph.D. in Business Management from Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto.
