Osun rerun: How Omisore committed political suicide – Adebanjo

Elder statesman and chieftain of the apex Yoruba social political group, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has said that the candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Iyiola Omisore, has committed political suicide by throwing his weight behind the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of Thursday’s governorship rerun election in Osun.

Omisore had yesterday decided to pitch his tent with the ruling APC.

Before taking the decision, Omisore had been visited by both PDP and APC leaders.

The Ile-Ife born politician said his party’s decision to form an alliance with the APC was because of its readiness to adopt and implement SDP’s programme.

But reacting to the development, Adebanjo, who spoke to reporters on Wednesday night, said the SDP candidate had committed political suicide.

Adebanjo said, “He [Omisore] is on his own.

“Without no consultation with either the chairman of the SDP and Afenifere, he made the statement.

“He is completely on his on. Up till Tuesday night, he told me that there was nothing like that; it just shows the type of character he is.

“I can assure you that he will fail. It is a political miscalculation, he has committed a suicide.”
