The Chairman of Hawul Local Government Area in Borno, Mr. Inuwa Bwala, has disclosed that the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has registered a total of 13,394 unemployed graduates in the area. Bwala praised NDE for conducting the enumeration exercise in Hawul, during a recent event.
The registered unemployed individuals consist of graduates with Bachelor’s degrees, Higher National Diplomas (HND), National Diplomas (ND), and National Certificates of Education (NCE). Bwala expressed concern over the increasing number of jobless youths in the region, calling for immediate actions to address the issue. He warned that “a society with such a large population of unemployed people is only delaying the evil day.”
Bwala encouraged the local youths to seek self-employment opportunities rather than solely relying on government jobs after completing their education. He revealed that the local council would write to the Borno government, requesting employment opportunities for these graduates, including roles as volunteer teachers on a monthly stipend basis. Bwala also mentioned that Governor Zulum recently directed the employment of such unemployed youths in the education sector, highlighting that Hawul has a significant number of qualified individuals.
